With nearly four decades of experience at sea, Captain Josep has navigated through diverse waters, mastering different propulsion systems and dedicating the last eight years to the elegant SEMAYA.
In this interview, he shares his passion for yachting, his journey aboard this timeless vessel, and what makes chartering SEMAYA in Mallorca a truly unique experience.
Interviewer: Welcome, Captain. It’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to learn more about you and the SEMAYA. To start, could you tell us how long you’ve been sailing and when your journey with this yacht began?
Captain: I’ve been sailing for 39 years—9 of them dedicated to artisanal fishing and 30 years in the yachting world, working with different propulsion systems, including conventional propellers, surface drives, and Kamewa jets. I’ve been working on the SEMAYA since April 2016.
Interviewer: What can you tell us about the SEMAYA? What makes it special?
Captain: The SEMAYA is special because of its unique aesthetics—it was built in 1968 and has a one-of-a-kind design. It features a large sun deck, spacious and comfortable cabins, a generous salon, and two outdoor dining areas where guests can enjoy their meals. Plus, there’s a great selection of water toys for everyone’s entertainment.
Interviewer: Besides sailing, we know you’re an experienced fisherman. What kind of fishing experiences can passengers enjoy aboard the SEMAYA?
Captain: As I mentioned earlier, I spent 9 years working in the fishing industry. On the SEMAYA, depending on the anchorage location, guests can try bottom fishing (volantín), and while cruising between the islands, we can also do trolling (curricán).
